A free sketch drawn as part of that popular journal meme. This picture is also my first try at Corel Painter... and I ended up spending a lot of time on it, which I didn't regret. Someday I also hope to finish it up properly with lighting, shading and texture.
I hope you like it, Shao!
Shao-Feng_Li's Meshullam. You can see more of this character by clicking here
Wow that turned out really nicely! Cool character ^^ Corel painter huh? I haven't had a chance to play around with that before. But it came out just wonderful, so it must be a good program! Either that or you're just really talented ^_~

That is a seriously sweet looking sketch! I love the fine line work and the strong sense of movement, plus the flat colours are working really nicely. The eyes and the face are especially intense.
Was the line drawing itself done digitally? I always find that my attempts at digital outlining are kinda shaky, but this looks quite controlled. It could be my tablet settings, oooor my daily coffee intake
Thanks, Shao, I hoped you would. I referenced your pictures heavily for the costume details but there's still some little bits missing. If I get around to finishing this properly I hope to put them in then. Oh, and his hair is blue so that I can use that as a midtone when I shade it heavily later.

Leaving a without a comment is like saying thank you without making eye contact. Its nice and all - but I have no idea what it means.
He is a very fun character to draw - especially the costume details. They were fantastic to mess about with. Thanks, Felix!
Nope, I think all the talent and skill in this picture comes from Painter. Because computers can draw for you. Haha I have run into people who seem to believe that! How about you? I've been finding Corel fun (what little I've used of it.. this picture is all I've done with it for thus far) but it hogs a lot of processing power and runs slow on my laptop. Photoshop runs faster and responds to my stylus better (that might just be something I have to set up in Painter though) but Painter has some LOVELY textures and brushes so they're both good to use, I think.

Thanks, Bluemoonchild. Originally I planned it out as a head and shoulders shot, but I kept lengthening the cavas so I could include the costume details. I'm also working on getting more movement in my pictures so I tried to include some twist in the torso and pelvis... although that's largely hidden under his clothes....
Shao's drawings of Mesullam are usually very intense and have impact, so I think that may have come accross in this fanart haha (at least I hope it has ).
Yep, the linework for this was done digitally from start to finish, as was the colour. I find linework one of the hardest parts of a picture, and my lines can get shaky too. I also drink a fair bit off coffee, so I hope that doesn't make it worse.
Hmmm... I think what helps me is working on large pictures that I can shrink down later, and zooming right in when I do the lines. I usually darken and clean up the lines a couple of times too. I'd guess that's something you'd do as well, though. Have you tested things out in your tablet utilities? I think you can adjust the stylus sensitivity there.

Not to mention he has more than one set of clothes, so you can do whatever, lol.
